What it's all about

For most nonprofits, the AI strategy is one person: a curious generalist who worked out the workflow, kept it in their head, and never had time to write it down. 92% of nonprofits use AI. Seven percent have written it into their goals and budgets. The gap between those two numbers is usually that person, and when they leave, the capability leaves with them.

This session is about what it takes to close that gap: turning scattered AI enthusiasm into a real function with an owner, a mission, measurables, and a line in the budget.

What you'll learn:

  • An understanding of how AI adoption is less about tech and more about communication and change management

  • An understanding of why building organizational AI capacity needs a named resource (with some dedicated time) rather than a willing volunteer

  • Ability to identify the skills that help support the AI department (hint: these aren't tech-heavy skills)

  • Clear, actionable steps to formalize your AI strategy—including writing a mission, securing budget, and taking your first concrete action immediately after the session
